Annie Bienvenu is a soccer player, and a fan. This time at the Canada Soccer 2023 Futsal Canadian Championship held in Calgary, she played an important role off the field as an athletic therapist.
“Because, I really like and enjoy the game of Futsal”
Teams know where to find Annie because she stood by at the physio station during matches. Whenever there was a player gone down, Annie was ready.
“Sometimes there is no one, when they (players) get injured, they quit playing instead of having a therapist to check in so that they can continue.”
Annie is the current RDP Athletics Head Athletic Therapist at Red Deer College. She described she learnt a lot about the science while it keeps evolving in area such as concussion. Nowadays, there are more knowledge and resources to help teams succeed.
“My job is to help them (players) perform at their best they could, to support them the way I could.”
As to why Annie volunteered in the Nationals, she strongly felt that Futsal is growing and she wanted to be a part of the movement.
“Super speed, power, and super challenging to the players, they have to be quick, and it is demanding. I want to help them as an athletic therapist. And, regular soccer players should try Futsal as well.”
Annie has two bachelors, one specializing in sports training, and the other focusing in athletic therapy. She is currently finishing her master’s degree in athletic training at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
